AVID
Program Overview
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academic, regularly scheduled elective program which uses writing as a tool of learning, inquiry method, and collaborative grouping. The three main components of the program are academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities that include tours of universities/colleges, and guest speakers.
AVID is a school-wide approach to college access, specially targeting students in the “middle” by providing high expectations, encouragement, day-to-day support, and a vision of college acceptance and graduation. AVID involves students in a strong group of peers and adults who share a commitment to academic achievement and who work together to help the group succeed.
